The large granite rock of Sa Crabarissa, legend has it that it is a woman petrified because she betrayed her betrothed.
FALLING IN LOVE WITH A SPECIAL WOMAN
You meet it almost by chance, like most things that leave a mark. Like an orchid in a meadow, like a shooting star. Like a granite rock along a path.
She is a girl from Cabras who fell in love with a shepherd from Austis, whom she met during the winter transhumance that had led him from the mountains to Campidano.
She exchanged words with him, then gifts and promises, but when the transhumance ended, the shepherd left for the mountains, and the girl waited in vain for his return. The young promised bride decided to set out for Austis to find him, and discovered that the shepherd was already married to another woman.
Desperate, returning towards the plain, the girl was petrified by grief, turning into the famous rock.
Thus the legend tells, inviting not to play with the feelings of others.
Almost at the exact center of the island between Barigadu and Barbagia di Ollolai, crossed by ancient transhumance routes, there is this emblem of the landscape, natural beauty: a block of granite over 50 meters high, which as a whole has the appearance of a woman in traditional costume.
This geographical feature is linked to the particular legend at the center of the narrative of the large network of trails that enhances the forests of central Sardinia, and this location is central.
