Scala 'e Pradu - Gasole (B-405)
The pathway
Roadbook
The trail starts from the small dirt track widening at Scale 'e Pradu, heading north-east in the direction of the rounded outline of Punta Sos Nidos. The track descends slightly, then climbs immediately up across karren fields and wide limestone slabs. You cross a clayey field at Jahu Ruiu, keeping to the right and skirting south around Punta Sos Nidos, which can only be reached off the path. At a slight thalweg, a few metres upstream of the path, is theNurra de sas Palumbas cave, of great biospeleological importance. Continuing slightly downhill you arrive at Cuile Vilithi Vilithi.
Once past the small hut you continue downhill over wide rocky ridges between maples and junipers, with beautiful views. A small gully let you reach the level pass of Orgoi, with the sheepfold of the same name and the crossroads with trail 406A.
Following a plateau downhill towards the east, the trail then bends south towards Sovana, the wide valley now visible, which you cut across diagonally before climbing up limestone ledges on the opposite side. You start a descent across karren fields, taking the eastern direction and then, after passing the detour for Cuvile s'Aruledda, north-east. Heading downhill you come across a quick succession of pastoral settlements, lastly that still in use, at Marghine Ruia.
From near the sheepfold you’ll see a dirt road that leads rapidly down the bottom of the valley via a quick descent through the woods.
