The pathway

This trail is very scenic: it follows a long stretch of the old unsurfaced provincial road, passing by the ruins of the church of San Nicolò.

The area of Portixeddu falls within the boundaries of the S.I.C. (Site of Community Importance) called Is Compinxius - Buggerru Coastal Dune System- Portixeddu, of great environmental value as it represents the natural habitat of Stone Pine and Kermes Oak.

In recent years, the dunes that characterise the Portixeddu coast have undergone major preservation and consolidation works. Portixeddu beach features fine golden sand framed by steep rocks, forming a natural pool. The colour of the sand is accentuated where it meets the blue of the water of the Rio Mannu.

Roadbook

The itinerary starts from the provincial road SP 83 on the Portixeddu coast passing by Sa Forada de s'Amministrazioni and Punta Balla Bausu, a former fire watchtower. It crosses a series of hairpin bends at Arcu on Lurdagu, where it runs alongside the stream called Mitza su Fracci.
