Da Gambarussa alle Cime del Lattias (D 220)

Mount Lattias (1086 m a.s.l.) is among the highest peaks of Sulcis, the highest among the granite peaks of Gutturu Mannu. One of the most suggestive areas of the Monte Arcosu reserve and the Gutturu Mannu Regional Natural Park, the Lattias marks the border between the municipal territories of Siliqua (NO), Uta(NE) and the administrative island of Assemini (S) and is distinguishes and stands out for its characteristic appearance (the massif is composed of a series of spiers shaped by erosion, arranged to form a ridge almost two kilometers long). From the summit of Lattias the panorama is very impressive: towards Sulcis main ridges of and over the valleys towards Cagliari and the Mount Lattias.

It has always been a destination for experienced hikers. The first documented climb on this mountain dates back to 12 May 1895; it was carried out by members of the Club Alpino Sardo and it was later followed by numerous others by the Sardinian section of the (C.A.I.). The construction of some rural roads in the last century allowed a faster approach to the area, limiting its isolation; for this reason, between the 80s and 90s of the last century, the activity of hikers was considerably simplified, allowing a study of all the climbing routes to the Lattias ridges, in particular thanks to the guide edited by Mario Secci and written by the then president of the CAI Cagliari, Angelo Berio.

These are the most well-known climbing routes:

• The "Via dei primi salitori" (the route of the first climbers) recalls the route followed in 1895 and reported in the chronicles of the time. As then, the trail starts from Dispensa Gambarussa (once "Villa Mores", former train station of the ancient railway coming from Maddalena and Capoterra), leaving the Provincial Road, keeping the Fo.re.s.t.a.s. fence on the right, and arriving after a few hundred meters at the crossing of the Gutturu Mannu stream, which is crossed through an iron bridge (formerly part of the old railway). Then the trail rises progressively passing near Serra Trisioni Mannu (583m) and the cliffs of Punta Sa Grutta(504), Conca de is Pillais (525m), Punta Is Panizzadas (632m), Arcu su Suergiu, Arcu su Tronu (516m) and Monte on Tronu (684m), Costa Castangias and M.Liudeddu (971m).
• The climb up to "Costa castangias" from the locality of Is Pauceris passing through Is Antiogus climbing towards Mitza Is Seddas, to reach Monte su Tronu (684m) and rejoining the last uphill stretch towards the ridges, at the “via dei primi salitori”.
• The climb up from Arcu to Schisorgiu (488m), where the S.P.1 (from S.Lucia to Santadi) reaches its highest point. From here the trail heads towards Porcili mannu (520m) along the Trunconi Mannu river and then follows the "variante of M.Seddas" to get close to Mitza is Seddas and reach and bypass the ridge ofM.Seddas (845m).
• The climb up to Su Fundu; start from the former WWF guesthouse (Case P.Melis) after having gone up Guttureddu stream, follow the direction of the Su Fundu stream and reache the path that leads to Arcu Gennixedda; after having left it, climb to ridges and cross another path that descends from Mount Su Tronu, and arrive at the S'ena Manna pass (1000 m).
• The climb up to "Canale dei Tassi", a route with exceptional naturalistic characteristics, but difficult to reach if not starting from the WWF guesthouse, and following the course of the Guttureddu stream and heading to the smaller peak  of Mount Su Tronu and then towards Arcu de su Pirastru, then going up the Su Fundu river to reach, the apparently very challenging rock wall, to find the starting point of the "Canale dei Tassi ".
• The climb from Campana Sissa, Dispensa Antonietti and Arcu Gennixedda, passing through the mule trackon the valley floor of the Rio Camboni, reaching Arcu de Marroccu.
