The trail starts from the outskirts of the town of Nughedu Santa Vittoria.
Perched on a volcanic rock ridge, among oaks, downy oaks, and Mediterranean scrub, the town overlooks the splendid scenery of Lake Omodeo, near the imposing Santa Vittoria, a mountain that is at the origin of the toponym along with nocetum, indicating an area once rich in walnut trees.
Nughedu Santa Vittoria, a small agricultural town of 500 inhabitants in the Barigadu region, on the northeastern borders of the province of Oristano, offers surprising natural features, especially spectacular pinnacles and granite boulders with bizarre shapes that tower among greenery, springs and streams. The mountain is embellished by the Assai holm oak and centuries-old cork oak forest, which hosts a wildlife oasis with deer and fallow deer.
In the oldest part of the town, a municipality since 1947, among sixteenth-century 'Spanish-style' houses, stands the parish church of San Giacomo (16th century), whose facade is characterized by a splendid rose window and late-Mannerist portal.
