The pathway

The route crosses areas of great naturalistic interest such as canyons and waterfalls, holm oak woods and broom formations, and offers superb views from the Vedetta di Olinie, where it ends. From there, you can see a large stretch of the Ogliastra coastline and its mountains.

The Mediterranean maquis
The Mediterranean maquis is a plant formation typically found in areas with a Mediterranean climate.
It is made up of shrubs and saplings that do not exceed 5 metres in height. In Sardinia it covers vast areas and consists mainly of species such as: strawberry tree, heather, mastic, broad-leaved phillyrea, narrow-leaved phyllirea, thorny broom, Mediterranean buckthorn, tree spurgeetc. The maquis represents an important habitat for many animal species.

Mount Etna broom
Mount Etna broom (Genista aetnensis) belongs to the family of Leguminous plants. In Sardinian it is also variously known as Adanu, Scova, Inistra. This species is endemic to Sardinia and Sicily. In Sardinia the species is widespread in mountain areas and on the plateaus of the central-eastern and southern sectors. This shrub or small tree can reach a height of 6 metres.

Roadbook

The starting point of the path, leading from the mountains down to the valley, can be reached from the municipal road of Talana that goes from the town centre to Mount Olinie. The road is initially tarmacked and then unsurfaced, but easily passable even with non-off-road vehicles
