Organizing and planning an excursion

It’s very important to prepare properly for an excursion and study the route to familiarise yourself well with the area you’re going to cross. Choose easy routes if this is your first hike into that territory. Go with someone experienced!

Small but important measures!

Make sure someone knows where you're going and how long you'll be gone. That way at least one person will know where you are. Tell them your selected stageitinerary and the direction you’re taking.

Eat and drink responsibly!

For a successful excursion, adequate nutrition is important. We recommend a hearty breakfast and small amounts of rapidly digestible foods to be consumed frequently. Always have energy bars, biscuits or fresh fruit to hand. Drink water at regular intervals, but avoid energy drinks. The amount of water you need to carry with you depends on the length of the route, the presence of springs along the way and the temperature on the day.
 

Backpack essentials

A topographic map of the route and a compass for orientation are the first things to put in your backpack. A small first aid kit is also useful: plasters, disinfectant, bandages, a couple of bags of instant ice and also a sunscreen. Also, don't forget: mobile phone, a multi-purpose knife, a small torch, matches and some thermal blankets.

Watch out for the sun: use sunglasses and other protection!

The sun can cause conjunctivitissunburn and heatstroke, especially in children. We strongly advise you to protect your eyes with suitable lenses and your skin with high-protection creams, to be applied especially on the face. Drinking frequently is also a good strategy, especially in summer!
