This loop trail, which allows you to walk all the way round Lake Baratz, largely follows a rough track, with a small section on forest tracks and on a cart road leading to the entrance to a farm. You leave and arrive near the Center for Environmental Education (CEAS) at Lake Baratz, managed by Sassari municipal council.
At the end of the trail there is a rest area with tables and benches. Along the path you’ll be able to admire stunning panoramic views of the whole lake, from every angle; most of the path is shaded by pine and eucalyptus trees and one stretch lies in the shade of holm oaks.
This trail represents the best opportunity to visit the Lake Baratz area. It can be easily walked by anyone; in some sections the path underfoot is steep, and the steepest downhill sections present deep furrows from surface water runoff, but not of an extent that makes passing on foot problematic. This feature can be accentuated during those periods of the year characterised by frequent rainfall, or immediately after thunderstorms and cloudbursts.
There is a great variety of plant species for you to admire: from juniper to strawberry tree, from heather to carpets of rosemary, from cistus to wild orchids. Given a moment of silence, you may also hear and spot the various species of birds living on the lake: mallards and coots first and foremost.
