PRIVACY POLICY OF THE WEBSITE AND THE (linked) MAP APP (SARDEGNA-Sentieri-app, downloadable from iOS and Android play stores)
(Information regarding data processing and responsible parties)
(a) This website
This website is aimed at promoting the territories of Sardinia by displaying an “online catalogue” of (public) geographic data on hiking routes.
Therefore, no personal data of any kind are directly managed or collected.
THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS (SOCIAL MEDIA, VIDEOS, MAPS) - This website, specifically in the descriptive pages of each trail (Trail articles: www.sardegnasentieri.it/sentieri) uses components that can redirect users to third-party applications (e.g. access to the user’s Facebook account) to allow those who wish to do so to comment on the content. Under no circumstances does SardegnaSentieri store login information for that account, which is managed directly by the authentication service provider for the social network (Facebook).
COOKIES - In relation to websites, a cookie is a small data set that is sent from the internet server to the user’s browser and stored by the browser on the user’s device (computer, tablet, mobile phone, or other) and can be read or later retrieved by the server. Cookies allow the website to store some useful information within a session or in subsequent visits that the user makes to the site.
USE OF COOKIES - On the websites of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, cookies are used to improve the user experience and to provide services and functions to users. You can restrict or disable the use of cookies through your web browser. However, in this case, some features of the website may become inaccessible.
WHY WE USE COOKIES - For several reasons: in some parts of the website, cookies are essential (they make it possible to navigate the content on the site). In other parts, they collect useful information about the user to provide appropriate services. Some external services (third parties) may also need to install special cookies on the user’s browser in order to provide the related services (social media buttons, maps, etc...).
WHAT TYPES OF COOKIES ARE USED ON OUR WEBSITE?
1) Technical cookies: these are used for the sole purpose of “carrying out the transmission of communications on the Network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of a service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such service” (see Article 122(1) of the Privacy Policy). They are not used for any further purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or operator of the website. They can be divided into:
2) Browsing or session cookies: used for the purpose of recording data useful for normal navigation and use of the website on the user’s computer (allowing, for example, the preferred page size to be remembered). Such cookies can further be distinguished by their persistence on the user’s computer: sessions cookies are automatically deleted at the end of each navigation session. Permanent cookies, on the other hand, have a longer life.
3) Functional cookies: these allow the website to remember choices made by the user in order to optimise functionality. For example, functional cookies allow the website to remember a user’s specific settings, (such as country settings and, if set, permanent login status without further authentication).
4) Third-party cookies: some functions require the use of third-party services (listed below). These services produce cookies that are linked to services provided by a third party (such as the provider of a social platform) that provides these services in exchange for information about the user’s visit to our site. Of course, third-party cookie providers are also obliged to comply with the relevant regulations. For this reason, we recommend that users visit the links to the web pages of the third-party sites, where they can find the cookie consent forms and the related privacy policies of the managing entities. If services are provided via indirect contacts with third parties, the user should consult the sites of the parties who act as intermediaries between this site and those third parties.
OTHER SERVICES OR COMPONENTS SIMILAR TO COOKIES
Analytics - used to optimise information and services offered, the websites of the Regional authorities of Sardinia use Google Analytics, a Google service that enables online user behaviour, such as time, geographic location and behaviour on the site, to be tracked and analysed.
Google: Youtube and Google Maps - in some cases, videos are viewed through Youtube, and in some cases the maps made available to users are created through the features offered by Google Maps.
Open Street Map - In addition to Google maps, some services make use of Open Street Map maps.
HOW CAN COOKIES BE DEACTIVATED OR DELETED? - Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can set your browser not to accept them, either automatically or upon request. We do not recommend deactivating cookies, as this may impair normal browsing of the website and some or all functions of some sites may not be available. If you do not want your computer to receive and store cookies, you can change your browser’s security settings.
Below are the links to the pages of the relevant manufacturers of the most popular browsers.
(b) The Sardegna Sentieri map app and the “interactive map” section of this website The interactive map on the SardegnaSENTIERI website, like the webapp and the SardegnaSENTIERI map app (available to download for free on your mobile from the iOS and Android stores), is designed for use on smartphones and tablets (primarily smartphones) to make consulting the Sardinian hiking, biking and horse trail network easy and enjoyable. It also makes all the regional data on the Sardinia Trail Network available in various formats.
The app does not collect, manage or store users’ sensitive data or GPS location data on remote servers. For the sole purpose of providing a geolocalised map view, while running the app on a mobile device (if it has GPS enabled, and with the limitations due to the quality of the GPS available on the device) the app uses the data made available by the operating system (android/iOS), but does so “locally” (i.e., processing the data on the device without storing it or transmitting it externally). The producer of the app (Webmapp s.r.l. of Pisa) has been appointed as the data controller by the Forestas Agency, and has given technical assurance that no data is acquired via the internet during the app’s operation. The user’s location is not even memorised/stored on the device once the map view is closed and the “show me on the trail” function is disabled. Therefore, location is managed entirely on the personal device, and does not involve either the processing or storage of geographic data, even less so personal data.
c) Trail report form
The trail report form, available on this website, is a simple “form-mail” component to enable users to submit text and a photo and, possibly, geographical coordinates (in classic GPS form, longitude x,xxxx and latitude y,yyyy) to assist the Regional trail network monitoring system. It is not necessary to give your name or email, but you may opt to provide such information (in particular, the email address will be used only to inform you of the action taken or to contact you and ask for further details, after which it will not be stored on the system nor used for any other purpose). You are not required to provide any personal information on the trail report form.
GENERAL NOTES
In any other case, the Fo.Re.S.T.A.S. Regional Agency guarantees that no personal data that may be received by e-mail or through electronic forms will be processed, and the use of such data for the purpose of communications (the only one provided) is in accordance with the provisions of the current Personal Data Protection legislation. In particular, the data will not be stored on any server, nor will they be sold to third parties, and their use will be exclusively for communications related to the website and its contents and for the possible sending of information on topics related to the contents of the site or reporting.
Personal data will be processed exclusively for the purpose of carrying out the activities referred to in Article 24 of the Italian Privacy Code, for which the data subject’s consent is not required. The rights of the data subject are those expressly indicated in Article 7 of the Privacy Code and may be exercised by making a simple request, including by registered letter or e-mail (Article 9 of Legislative Decree no. 196 of 30 June 2003) to the data controller or processor.
The data controller is the Fo.Re.S.T.A.S. Regional Agency with headquarters in Viale Merello, 86 - 09123 Cagliari. The data processors are the Managers of the competent offices, from whom the data subject may request information relating exclusively to his/her personal data (for more details, see the website SardegnaForeste.it - Privacy section)
