The pathway

The trail crossing the Tuttavista mountain from Galtelli to Orosei is a stage of Sentiero Italia and is also Trail 200 of the Sardinia Trail Network.

This is a medium-length but fairly challenging trail that connects the two towns on the plains by crossing Monte Tuttavista, which, after an initially gentle climb, reaches a height of 764 m near the Bronze Cross with stunning views over the plains below. After about 2 km on an easy dirt road, you will arrive at the fire lookout, another impressive viewpoint over the coastline of Orosei. Next, head down towards Orosei, first along a relatively easy wooded gorge and then crossing a rocky section known as Sa Fraicata with a steep slope. Finally, you will reach the bottom of the valley on an easy dirt road that, passing by some abandoned lime kilns, will lead you to the bypass leading to Orosei and the Rimedio sanctuary at the entrance to the town.

Useful informations

The trail has some exposed stretches of classified as having EE difficulty, specifically: some scrambling on rock and using a wooden ladder in a downhill section leading to Orosei, and some walking on scree and talus.

Tips and recommendations for enjoying the trail

In severe weather, in light of the area’s terrain, these trails can be exposed to medium hydrogeological hazards.

Rockrose and vegetation regrowth might obscure the path in some places: it is best to have detailed maps and/or a carefully calculated GPS route before setting off on your hike!

WARNING: THIS TRAIL HAS SOME SHORT EXPOSED SECTIONS which are wide enough for easy passage but consist of limestone ledges that, in rainy or humid weather, may be moderately slippery, increasing the risk of falls down the slope.

Please note there are no water sources along the route.

Roadbook

The trail starts from the town centre of Galtellì, where there are some signposts for hikers. The uphill stretch begins after the church of S. Francesco.
