The pathway

The former "orange path" lets you return from the area of Maidopis to Noci Barracks, at
Arcu 'e Tidu and the SS 125. At several points along the route you encounter (former green) trail 815, which you can use to walk a complete loop, or to reach the hamlet of Mount 'e Cresia from the pass of Arcu Sa Spina. The path covers some difficult sections on a rocky surface, with splendid views of the Sette Fratelli ridges.

This trail starts at the entrance to the dirt road that, a few dozen metres from the Museo del Cervo sardo (Sardinian Deer Museum), leads toward Maidopis. After a few bends you will come to a fork in the road, which also marks the end point of the “blue” route. Leave it behind to follow the orange-coloured markings on the left. The first section climbs steadily uphill and reaches Mount Arrubiu from where you will enjoy beautiful views of the peaks of the Sette Fratelli range.

From here, begin to head downhill first to Arcu sa Spina, along the firebreak, then continue to Maidopis on a path through the greenery, which after reaching a picnic area, meets with the “red” trail and reaches the Botanical Garden area.

Useful informations

This trail was formerly referred to as the “orange trail” i.e. trail no. 4. However, in 2015 the Forest Agency carried out extraordinary maintenance on the forest trails and installed new waymarkers in line with CAI standards - renaming the trails with a numbering system appropriate to the area. However, the old trail names and numbers are still mentioned on SardegnaSentieri and in hiking maps.

Roadbook

You set off in front of the Botanic Garden of Maidopis, continuing on the dirt road in a south-easterly direction, keeping on your left the structures of the Forestas forestry authority
and the deer enclosure. This is a steady but brief uphill section through a lovely wood, which ends in the wide open space of Arcu Sa Spina, where the firebreak track also runs through.
Head right until you come to the intersection with trail 815.
