It probably dated back to the seventeenth century, but there is no certain information regarding the origin of the ancient church dedicated to Santa Maria 'e su Nie, which in the mid-nineteenth century must not have been in good condition, so much so that the historian Angius did not even mention it among the churches of Aritzo. However, the population has always remained attached to this place, which is located along the path traveled until the last century by the "niargios", who were those who collected the snow necessary for the preparation of carapigna, the typical ice cream of Aritzo; therefore, on the occasion of the pilgrimage of August 5, 1919, Bishop Piovella granted the reconstruction of the building, which was blessed six years later. Unfortunately, this church also suffered abandonment and consequent ruin, but the citizens did not resign themselves to this fate and committed themselves to rebuilding it once again in 1994; in 2007, on the occasion of the feast, the inauguration finally took place.
Built entirely of local schist stone, it has a hut structure, with a loggia on the left side and, on the same side of the roof, a small bell gable. Numerous arched windows illuminate the nave, covered with wooden trusses and with the slightly raised presbytery, on which a massive wooden altar is placed.
