A former mining village, it is still inhabited today by an active community that has dedicated an enormous and commendable effort to creating a veritable network of 50 km of trails.
Inevitably, this village, which during the economic boom of the Iglesiente mining area housed the management, is the central hub for most of the hiking trails created by its inhabitants.
A corner among the most evocative of the Iglesiente area, on the ridge of Mount San Giovanni, amidst pines, palms, and Mediterranean scrub, the sea of Gonnesa and the cliffs of Pan di Zucchero are clearly visible from this elevated position that also overlooks the SS 126. Administratively a hamlet of Gonnesa, the former mining village is located near the nearby San Giovanni mine, already known and exploited even in Roman times.
Today, about seventy people live in Normann. New and well-maintained houses mingle with the ruins that recall the mining past, somewhat like in Montevecchio or Argentiera. The particularly interesting buildings are four: Villa Stefani, Villa Pintus, the ruins of the Church of San Giovanni at the entrance of the village, and the company store.
