Trail 314 is a short section that connects the mining village of Monte Agruxiau with the Funtana Cuperta locality, with an intermediate stop in the mining village of Bindua.
The Village of Monte Agruxiau
The mining village of Monte Agruxiau takes its name from the hill overlooking it and the homonymous mine, which once belonged to the Belgian company Vieille Montagne, with a concession dating back to 1876. The exploitation of lead and zinc veins continued, under various companies, until 1981.
The village is still inhabited by about 150 people, and the main small square is barely enlivened by the recent opening of the Iglesias office of the Regional Forestry Agency (Agenzia Regionale Forestas).
The school, the company store, the after-work club, the workers' housing, and even the beautiful small church dedicated to Saint Barbara with its characteristic mullioned and pointed arch windows are now closed. The industrial plants are now in complete abandonment. Among them stand out the washing plant with the magnetic sorter, the Oxland furnace, and a beautiful shaft furnace.
