As at 2023, the entire trail needs significant improvement of signposts and blazes and path conditions. Consequently, some trail sections may be closed or bypassed, due to issues between Torre del Porticiolo and Cala Viola that make them not fully accessible. This trail cannot currently be listed in the Regional Trail Network.

Main features

The coastal trail is a path of great natural value stretching from the southern edge of Porto Ferro beach almost all the way to the state-owned area of Le Prigionette-Promontory of Porto Conte.

The trail winds its way along the coast, often on the edge of small cliffs and coastal slopes: after passing the Bantine Sale Tower you have the option to reach and admire, in order: Cala del Turco, Cala del Vino, Torre and Cala Porticciolo, Cala Viola.

The trail ends at the border with the nature area Le Prigionette and, to return to your starting point, you can head northwards along the forest track (also known as "viale dell'impero" or "viale dell'imperatore") which will take you back to the beach of Porto Ferro.

The trail is extremely scenic, with access to the sea at several points along the way, and is largely devoid of tree vegetation, being characterised instead by typical species of maquis shrubland, including in particular helichrysum bushes, with their intense yellow colour.

Roadbook

Start from the car park at the entrance to Porto Ferro beach: heading south, with Capo Caccia in sight, walk along the wooden fence separating the dirt road from the sea cliff. A carpet of Carpobrotus acinaciformis (commonly known as Elands sourfig), graces the landscape, especially in its flowering season. This is an exotic succulent perennial plant, forming sprawling low-growing groundcovers. It thrives on sandy, well-drained and poor soils, in a very sunny position. When in bloom, it has an abundance of large yellow and purple flowers. The coastal trail runs through a wild natural environment, from the southern edge of the Porto Ferro beach to the nature area of Le Prigionette.
