S'Abba Arva (Sa Barva) - Tiscali (B-481)
The pathway
Roadbook
You leave the bridge behind you, walking northwards on the dirt road which, on the right, runs along the river, keeping on your left the towering rock faces of Mount Oddeu and, just above the roadway, a fence. At the end of the fence, you pass a first small road on the left and shortly afterwards you reach an ample widening in the path where, continuing straight on, you would take trail 486.
Take the left, starting to climb steeply up the remains of a charcoal-makers’ mule track that follows an ancient and important path. Paying attention to the signs, go around a high rocky edge keeping it on the right, entering the woods of the Surtana valley.
Surtana is surrounded by cliff faces, making it a popular destination for climbers. The trail runs along the centre of the valley floor, under the holm oak wood, in constant but slight ascent. About halfway down the long hanging valley you change slope, starting to descend and facing the mass of Mount Tiscali that seems to be blocking the way. You exit the forest into a wide clearing with juniper trees ravaged by lightning, at Doloverre, where you also intersect with trail 411. Take a left, heading uphill slightly.
You climb up a mule track with some hairpin bends, on your left a high rock face pierced by a yellowish grotto. A little further on you come to the fork for trail 480A which you leave on your left, heading right along a narrow path through the junipers.
The path climbs a wide oblique ledge, with splendid views. At the top of the climb, now on the crest of Mount Tiscali, some signs point to the mouth of the chasm and the village.
