On the edge of the town center, the area that currently hosts the Castangias Park once housed a beautiful forest of cherry trees, saxifrages, walnut trees and especially chestnut trees that gave their name to the locality.
The Castangias valley can be considered the cradle of Villacidro: it is here that the Rio Fluminera originates, along whose banks the town has grown, protected by the steep slopes of Monte Omo and Monte Cuccureddu. The abundance of water has always characterized the park area, where, in the years between 1928 and 1932, the aqueduct was built which collected the waters of numerous springs to distribute them in the town.
The aqueduct structures, built in the style of Tuscan villas, gave the area an elegant and refined appearance, and the park was a destination for continuous walks by vacationers who chose Villacidro as the location for their holidays.
The Park is an excellent starting point to reach the Coxinas plateau and some of the highly suggestive panoramic points from which to admire the mountains that embrace the town of Villacidro.
The area has never lost its natural charm and is a traditional destination for relaxing and rejuvenating walks.
