The pathway
Roadbook
Along the Municipal Road, which crosses the nature reserve, there is a trail leading to S'Isteddu. The reserve also features an ancient charcoal-making kiln that gives an insight into the area’s socio-economic history. The facilities managed by the Forestry Agency and open to the public include a small natural history museum housing a collection of wild animals.
Near the building is the intersection with trail 511B leading to the spring of S'Araighinos. Heading in the direction of Austis, you come to Sa Sennoredda, passing through thick Mediterranean scrub.
At the end of the walk, the large contorted granite rock of Sa Crabarissa is visible in the background. Legend has it that it is in fact a woman turned to stone because she betrayed her betrothed.
In nearby Borta Melone you can see the Cuiles, ancient enclosures built by shepherds for their goats and sheep. These include Su Cuile Corte Loi, Su Cui le Furriottos and Su Cuile de Tannoro.
