Gennargentu
Gennargentu
: description
Gennargentu is a mountain massif that boasts the highest peaks of the island (Punta La Marmora 1834 m.a.s.l. and Bruncu Spina 1828 m). From here you can enjoy sweeping views over the whole island. The area is invaluable thanks to the presence of endemic and rare habitats and species. Here you can see golden eagles or run into groups of mouflons.
The vegetation consists of meadows, garrigue and maquis, but also dense alder woods and huge downy oaks.
Those who walk the area’s trails can quench their thirst at fresh springs, admire blooms of rare beauty and spot a surprising number of insects.
At the bottom of the valley are ancient sheepfolds, occasionally still used. In the villages you can visit museums, taste local produce and buy traditional handicrafts.
